Hawkesbury City Council is proposing a Special Rate Variation (SRV)—a planned increase in residential rates over the next three years of 40%. The purpose of this SRV is to secure additional funding to renew, maintain, and improve essential infrastructure across the region, with a particular focus on our local road network.
Council states that the SRV will help address the backlog of road repairs, enhance long-term asset management, and ensure safer, more reliable transport routes for residents and businesses. The proposed increase is intended to support sustainable service delivery and reduce reliance on short-term fixes.

- We oppose the 40% rate hike because it worsens the cost-of-living crisis for many struggling families
- It doesn't stop Council wasting money on non-essential projects while neglecting critical infrastructure

I have lived here for 27 years and Menin Road has never been in such disrepair, in some sections there isn't even two sides of the road. Considering we pay over $5500.00 a year in rates and only received garage collection (which is $832.00). I think the council has a hide.We have an envirocycle. No street lights or gutters. Since the last Special Rates Varation we have not received a thing.
Because it is battle to have anything fixed. The condition of our roads is beyond a joke. My car has had damage to the tyre and rim and shock twice. We have no street lights, no gutters and no sewage.
The proposed increase is outrageous and unnecessary. Council needs to manage it's finances better rather than increasing the costs to residents.

Council should own up to their past inability to correctly and openly manage OUR money....money that was meant to cover the costs we incur living in the area. They have squandered those funds and now expect us to cough up more!! Doesn't seem fair when they will continue down the same rabbit holes they have made, and expect a different outcome. Common sense, responsibility and work ethic seem to be greatly lacking.
