Being a part of a team is a proven positive activity for students & a healthy break from the intense pressure of their studies. I would think a healthy distraction for its students would be important to Cal, but that has not been the case. Dealing with RCS staff has caused stress & disappointment for our boys, as well as coaches & volunteers. I’m angered & dismayed at the toll this has taken on all who are a part of this wonderful team – it is supposed to be fun. UC Berkeley – DO BETTER.

Thousands of dollars are donated to Cal Men's Lacrosse (CML) each year. RCS keeps ~$22K/year for admin fees & gate keeps the rest. Yet, RCS hasn’t paid coaches, bills, provided req’d medical staff & they take away fields at the last minute. And they are still holding CML monies. If this isn’t Misappropriation of Funds, what is? I’m infuriated my donation to the CML Fund didn’t “Light the Way” to its intended purpose. Fiat Lux, Fail. CML isn’t asking for money, just for UC Berkeley to do its job.

Lax

As a former president of an NCLL lacrosse team who has had to deal with the stress of financially supporting a group of devoted athletes, the Cal Men’s Lacrosse team deserves better. Student athletes at every level should be treated with respect and at the very least, allowed to operate autonomously if institutions are not willing to support them, rather than stonewall at every opportunity.

Cal men’s lacrosse deserves respect and cooperation for the safety and sustainability of lacrosse at the university. The hostility of the administration is despicable, especially considering that club lacrosse has been a decades-long tradition. Do better Cal!

After playing 4 years of club lacrosse in college I understand the difficulties of running a team without the university itself impeding the process. The boys give a lot to this program and the school should help them however they can.

Cal men’s lacrosse has always been a pillar of professionalism on and off the field. There is no reason why they should have to put up with roadblocks from the club sports department, which keep them from operating as the established an elite club, which they have been for decades.
