Hi Everyone!

I would like to personally thank you for supporting this petition! But we still need more signatures before the Zoning Hearing on 20Feb. Please share via email and your social media ASAP. Any Adult in the US can sign, but, for obvious reasons, we really need as many Hillsborough County residents to sign as possible. Please share with all your friends www.openpetition.org/!gkdxx

The land in question is part of the Sweet Water Creek Watershed. The Canal immediately adjacent to the property leads to the Town and Country Greenway Canal which, in turn leads to Rocky Creek, Old Tampa Bay, and the Tampa Bay Estuary, which is Florida’s largest open water estuary. Disturbance of this land could directly lead to the buried toxins being released into these very delicately balanced bodies of water.
Groundwater test reports indicate that Numerous Chemicals have been detected over safe limits including:
1,2,3-Trichloropropane, 1,3-Dichloropropane, Acrylonitrile, Carbon Tetrachloride, Isopropylbenzene, Chlorobenzene, Benzene, Acetone, & Arsenic.

The following quote from a recent Groundwater Report should be enough to stop this development in its tracks, but hasn't so far:
The County continues to be approached for the potential redevelopment of the BRLF.
Unless a proper development plan is constructed under an EPC Director’s Authorization, redevelopment would potentially have adverse effects to the environment and human health by disturbing waste filled areas, initiate groundwater plume migration outside property boundaries, impacts to nearby surface water channels, and development of explosive landfill gases. It is unquestionable, a Final Order document for the closed Barry Road Landfill needs to be completed to reduce the potential risks and set the guidelines under the rules of 62-701 F.A.C. for water quality, landfill gas, and reduce the risk of human exposure.

It is pretty clear that although additional traffic and wildlife concerns are important, the possibility of preventing further waterway pollution is what makes stopping this development imperative!

If anyone from the Town 'N Country area would like to ride the bus to the Zoning Hearing on 20Feb, please email Jhirst.TOSDtampa@gmail.com to confirm a spot on the bus. The bus will leave from Morganwoods Elementary School at 430pm and we request a $5 driver tip per person.

Thanks so much for your support!
