We, the undersigned residents of the Town of Belmont, MA, request the town to fully implement the Paws in the Park off-leash program for Belmont dogs.
Reason
This program matters to many in our community; keeping it and actually implementing it is the best solution for our multi-use parks and fields.

Belmont’s off-leash program benefits our canines and their owners by providing opportunities for pups to learn socialization, behaving in open spaces, playing and interacting with humans and other dogs. For their humans, the off-leash program fosters community and creates long lasting friendships sparked by a common interest and respect for their fellow dog owners. This program is a privilege we all honor and respect.
Being a member of a community of dog-owners has been one of the best surprises of our family’s 27 years in Belmont. I have met people who have enriched my life and exposed me to many different world views, perspectives and lived experiences. The dog park is one of the few remaining places where we can practice democracy while also caring for our beloved animals.

Public areas like Town Field and PQ should be used by everyone, especially those who pay taxes. Dog owners should have the same access as soccer participants. They should be community fields and not solely for sports.
In addition, what actual proof does anyone have that dogs are the source of ALL the mentioned field condition problems????
