Petition is addressed to: Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT)
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is considering disposing of the El Rancho Park-n-Ride lot. RTD has given up its lease on this lot, and CDOT has recently built a 40-space lot at exit 251 to serve its Pegasus shuttle route. CDOT believes it is not worth their while to maintain a park-n-ride lot for ride sharing.
This lot is well used and has served the Evergreen area and I-70 corridor for 30 years. It is already built and paid for. It is not duplicated by the new shuttle parking lot, and there is no other site in this vicinity where it could be replaced. The El Rancho Park-n-Ride lot should not be disposed of.
CDOT's disposal process is conducted out of the public eye. No notice is posted or published and there is no public comment allowed until the end of the process when CDOT's decision goes to the Transportation Commission. This petition will be submitted to CDOT and the Transportation Commission when public comment is allowed.
Reason
The 36-space El Rancho Park-n-Ride lot is ADA compliant, centrally located, and links to other transit routes in the area. It is the only public parking in the commercial district known as the El Rancho Activity Center, a mixed use area which Jefferson County planning recommends should be located with transit facilities. Not only is this lot already used by the people for the purpose for which it was intended, but it fulfills planning guidelines and transit goals. Disposing of this lot would contradict those goals, waste existing investment, and limit alternative transportation options at this strategic location.
The Save El Rancho Campaign addresses development and land use proposals in this area, aiming to preserve community character and livability for neighborhood residents as part of the wider mountain residential community of Evergreen.
