Petition addressed to: TxDOT Waco District leadership and the TxDOT Executive Director
Route 5 is one of the proposed paths for the I‑14 corridor, and it would cut directly through established homes, family land, and a growing subdivision in Cameron. Many of us have lived here for years. Some families have been on this land for generations. This route would force people out of their homes, damage property values, and break apart a community that is already built and thriving.
Our neighborhood is not empty land. It is full of families, children, pets, and people who have worked hard to build their lives here. Route 5 would destroy houses, split properties, and create noise and traffic where people currently live in peace. There are other route options that do not harm existing homes or subdivisions.
We are asking TxDOT to remove Route 5 from consideration. Cameron deserves a route that supports growth without destroying the homes and land of the people who already live here. We want TxDOT to choose an option that protects our community, our safety, and our future.

Reason
I live in the area directly affected by Route 5, and my concern is simple: this route would destroy homes, family land, and a growing subdivision that already exists. My neighborhood is not empty land. It is full of families, children, pets, and people who have worked hard to build their lives here.
According to TxDOT’s own I‑14 Corridor Study materials, Route 5 passes through multiple residential areas and developed properties. The official study map shows Route 5 cutting through existing homes and subdivided parcels in Cameron. This means real people would be displaced, property values would drop, and long‑standing family land would be permanently damaged.
TxDOT also states that routes with high residential impact are considered “high‑impact alternatives,” meaning they cause significant disruption to communities. Route 5 clearly falls into this category based on the study’s mapping and impact descriptions.
My concern is not just about land — it’s about the community we already have. We ask TxDOT to remove Route 5 from consideration and choose a route that does not destroy established homes or subdivisions.

It is wrong to do this to so many people. People work hard for what they have. Many people inherited their homes and land. It's been in the family a long time. It would be wrong for those people to not have the same right to keep passing it down thru the family. This would also disrupt many people's lives. Many being elderly. I think this agenda has been hidden and swept under the rug for too long. It's just not justified doing when their are alternate routes to take.
Because it would displace many men and women 50 years of age and above.It would cause men and women-one of which is my Grandmother Peggy Barrett in whom is the Land/property onwer of 670 Ben Milam rd-who bought this land when there was nothing here and spent years turning it into of dream home.It would cause men and women to lose property that has been inherited or in that family for 2 generations or more.The City of Cameron would be profiting from displacing the elderly from their homes-which they DO NOT OWN.They would also be offering the owners pennies on the dollar instead the price the home and land are actually worth.Then that would force them into debt because to buy a livable home they would have to get a loan...or go homeless.Many other reasons,but I will digress...for now.

This route will go right through my property or extremely close. It needs to be further away from Cameron so that it affects fewer houses.
