Begjæringen er stilet til: Birmingham City School Board
We are asking for the Birmingham City Schools Board to update Policy 4.5, which states that individuals honored by naming a school facility must be deceased for at least two years. We believe this policy should allow for living individuals to be recognized so they can see and appreciate the impact of their legacy in our schools. This change would make it possible to honor community members who have made outstanding contributions while they are still with us.
Grunnen til
Recognizing people for their positive impact while they are still alive can serve as a powerful symbol for students and the community. Honoring individuals who have contributed to education, youth, and community well-being allows them to witness the acknowledgment of their hard work. For example, Herman Williams, a beloved basketball coach, dedicated years to helping young athletes, leaving a lasting impression on many lives. By allowing living individuals to see their contributions celebrated, we can show appreciation and inspire others to follow their path of service. This change would strengthen our community’s ties and encourage ongoing contributions to Birmingham City Schools.
