Petition is addressed to: DEM

We invite the community to join us in bringing the Windswept carriage house ruins back to life as a cleaner, safer, and more meaningful public space. Our request is simple: lend your support in any way you can to help preserve this historic landmark for future generations.
Ways to support include:

  • Volunteer – Participate in site cleanup, brush removal, or installation days.
  • Sponsor – Contribute toward benches, signage, or other improvements (with recognition opportunities available).
  • Donate – Help cover material costs such as gravel, supplies, and preservation tools.
  • Spread the Word – Share this project with neighbors, friends, and local businesses to build momentum.

Your involvement will ensure the Windswept site becomes not only a place of historic significance but also a source of pride and enjoyment for the entire Narragansett community.

Reason

The Windswept carriage house ruins are one of the last physical links to Narragansett’s Gilded Age history. Once part of a grand seaside estate, the site has weathered more than a century of change, fire, and neglect. Today, its stone walls still stand as a reminder of the town’s past — but without care, this unique landmark risks fading further into disrepair.
Restoring and enhancing the site is about more than cleaning up ruins. It’s about:

  • Preserving History – Protecting one of the few remaining structures tied to Narragansett’s turn-of-the-century estates.
  • Creating Community Space – Making Windswept a place where residents and visitors can gather, learn, and reflect.
  • Fostering Education – Sharing the story of the Davis family, Cobb’s by the Sea, and the broader cultural history of the area.
  • Enhancing Natural Beauty – Improving safety, access, and aesthetics for those who enjoy Black Point’s trails and coastline.
  • Building Civic Pride – Demonstrating what the community can accomplish together through volunteerism and local sponsorship.

By supporting this project — whether through volunteering, sponsoring, or simply spreading the word — you are helping to honor Narragansett’s heritage while shaping its future.

Thank you for your support, Nick Peters, South Kingstown
