Good day,
Recently East London was renamed without proper consultation. Most South African and East London community is not happy with the new name. East London already has a South African name which is "Monti". The petition is to request for the "Gompo City" to be changed to "Monti City" .

The City already has a name "Monti" which needs to be adopted instead of having a new name which the communities were not properly consulted on, coming from an individual. The link below, attests to the feel that South Africans have towards the name.

Early Xhosa-speaking locals adapted this to eMond (meaning mouth), which evolved into eMonti and iMonti.iMonti is the country's only river port and forms a major part of the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality in the Eastern Cape.
