Since June 2022, City of Joburg libraries have been closed on Saturdays, depriving thousands of residents of access to books, study spaces, computers, internet services, and community programmes on the one day many can use them.

Reason

LIBRARIES ARE AN ESSENTIAL SERVICE for learners, job seekers, working residents, seniors, and community groups.

Free reading should be available to the public. Most people work 9am-5pm weekdays and cannot access the library

I would love to visit the library during the weekends because I work during the week.

For the stated reasons. I also want to see the return of Libby so that we can access ebooks

Reading needs to be seen as recreation as well as work. Let people access books on their day off.

Reading is the way most South Africans can learn, stay informed and escape the stressful conditions (temporarily) in which we all live, to a greater or lesser extent.
