Petition addressed to: MSA - Motor Sport South Africa - National Extreme Festival

MSA - Motor Sport SA "safety committee" want a CHICANE installed on the ELGP Circuit main straight, and/or a GRAVEL TRAP around Potter's Pass Bend. A decision has already been made to change the August 2026 round to Aldo Scribante Raceway - Port Elizabeth.

Reason

A) Competitors participating in the National Extreme Festival (please note this when you sign), will be denied the challenge and enjoyment of racing on the historic Grand Prix Circuit.
B) All other competitors in the country and visiting from overseas (please note this when you sign), will be negatively affected in future, by the changes to the circuit. It may close altogether.
C) All other, "Interested and Affected Parties" will be negatively impacted by the event no longer coming, or the circuit closing. EG. Tourism, B&B Association, Services, Catering etc. It will negatively impact the local economy.
D) The historic value of this "Historic Heritage Site", the main attribute of the high speed nature of the circuit, the very thing that all competitors love about it, will be destroyed. It will be the end of it as we know it. Financially the circuit / BMSC may not survive.
E) A gravel trap around Potters Pass will be more dangerous than the present "Run-Off" area. No deaths or serious injuries have occurred there since the 1980's, when Potter's Pass was re-surfaced and the bush cleared to create the "Run-Off" area.
F) The costs of the requested changes are prohibitive. Border Motor Sport Club does not have the finance, or the support of BCM - the land owners to attract sponsors and investors. It is therefore an unrealistic expectation.
G) Without the National Extreme Festival, the circuit will struggle to survive. Ask yourself; Is this what you want, and do you want to be responsible for shutting down the world famous Historic East London Grand Prix Circuit?

Thank you so much for your support, Neville Fisher, East London

Why people sign

This is a racing circuit which I personally have raced many times and absolutely love. It is rich in SA motorsport history and would be an absolute shame to add a chicane before the most exhilarating corner that exists out of all SA race tracks. Please do not alter this brilliant track, and let them have their one and only national per year.

Dont put a chicane in at Potters , its going to ruin the Grand Prix Circuit, bring on the extreme festival.

My late husband raced this circuit

East London is one of the most iconic circuits in South Africa, with so much history and character. It would be a real loss to see the National Extreme Festival leave or for the circuit to be changed. Keeping the East London/Kugompo City round exactly as it is preserves a unique part of South African motorsport that drivers, fans, and future generations deserve to experience.

The historical value as the circuit currently stands is of utmost importance to be preserved.
