Petition addressed to: Gauteng Provincial Goverment

The Dinokeng Game Reserve (DGR) and the Cullinan area, as well as the many products surrounding the reserve, depend on the road infrastructure that feeds tourism via the De Wagensdrift (D1333), the Boekenhoutskloof (R734)/Hammanskraal R628 roads, and the Rust de Winter (D48) roads.

The above arteries, which feed both local and international tourism to the area, are currently nonfunctional and, in fact, untraversable. Many tourists, landowners, and members of the nearby community have sustained significant vehicle damage due to the above roads being in extremely dangerous condition.

These poor roads are now threatening the job security and financial viability of more than 100 businesses and about 2,000 employees.

Reason

Many tourists have posted on social media that their vehicles, trailers, and caravans have been damaged and that, as a result, they are not prepared to visit the DGR area again until the roads are repaired.

“According to the latest Economic Value of Tourism (EVT) report, more than 2.4 million visitors spent an estimated R24.5 billion in 2024, sustaining over 106 000 jobs, nearly 7% of all employment in the city”; if this is true for Cape Town, Tshwane and Gauteng should have a similar statistic. - Cape Town ECT

“Every visitor to our country contributes to our foreign revenue earnings, supports local businesses, bolsters local economies, and helps to create and sustain jobs. It is estimated that tourism currently sustains 1.8 million direct and indirect jobs, with one job created for every 13 international arrivals. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, tourism contributes nearly 9% to our country’s GDP.” DFA Global confidence in S.A.

If the above is true, so is the opposite. How many jobs are we killing with every tourist not coming back to the Dinokeng region?

Thank you so much for your support, Sarel Naude, Hammanskraal

Why people sign

We love Dinokeng

I love visiting this reserve, it is so important tourism remains so the animals can be kept to the highest standards

Vehicle damage is a common occurrence among guests and land owners alike.
Many guests entering DGR do not own high clearance vehicles, causing unwanted vehicular damage which results in costly, unwanted repairs.

Repairs of the road used by all entrants to the park would increase the amount of returning guests, as well as lower the risk of accidents at night.

It is in the parks best interest to focus on these issues as it has a ripple effect, which could ultimately lead the a large decline in revenue.

Love to visit Dinokeng but the road is very bad

Dinokeng game reserve cannot afford to loose clients because access is limited by the roads
