For 80 years, the United States and Europe have joined together as a diplomatic alliance. The United States threat of a military invasion of Greenland and tariffs on European countries is a grotesque affront to our partnership, a threat to peace and security, and a colonial ambition that flies in the face of democracy, multilateralism, and international law.

The third Monday of January (the day this petition is being written) is a national holiday in the United States that honors the life and legacy of the civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. Dr. King's words ring as true today as they did when he was organizing for equal rights: "I am cognizant of the interrelatedness of all communities and states... Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly."
