Eliminate the Use of AI in Educational Tools at Austin Community College

Besides the environmental impacts of AI, the most concerning and FERPA-violating piece of information can be found in the AI TRUST Framework for Austin Community College at the timestamp, 3:54. During that section of the video, the AI generated character can be seen uploading a student's transcript to an LLM for the determination of graduation eligibility.

By uploading a student's transcript for the use of an external company, ACC is encouraging the sharing of student information and grades. This is a violation of the students' privacy, according to the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act: https://studentprivacy.ed.gov/ferpa

Besides the privacy violations, the use of AI is in contradiction to the spirit of education, creativity, and the arts. Instead of offering students the chance to create the animation that they've trained for at ACC, shortcuts were taken. This is in direct antithesis of ACC's student-centered mindset. Generative AI is built on stolen intellectual property. If it's easier to simply prompt a platform to generate "art", this begs the question: "Why are we training in the arts here at ACC at all?"
