Petition addressed to: OCPS School Board
Our associate choir director has been a loving, attentive and successful teacher since the day she started at UHS. When we found out that we were getting two new vocal teachers, we were all so nervous but her and our other choir director filled those shoes with such grace.
Since the very beginning she has been such a light in not just her own program
as the vocal teacher but the performing arts as a whole. When our theatre teacher asked her to help teach the musical theatre class that our former vocal teacher taught alongside him; she volunteered with no hesitation. After loosing two different sponsors for Tri-M Music Honor Society within 6 months of each other, she took over as our sponsor without a second thought. She has always prioritized our success as students.
She is such a determined person that has flourished so much while working here. In their first year together, our advanced choir received a superior with distinction for the first time in a decade. She started our new Acapella group simply because we had mentioned it to her and she had so much faith in us.
She is such a vital part of our performing arts program which is constantly growing. We need your help to keep our incredible teacher, no matter how long she’s been here, but rather for how much she has done for us.
Reason
Our associate choir director is a beloved and important part of not only our Vocal Program but our entire Performing Arts program. Alongside our other director, they both equally run the vocal classes. Cutting her would not only mean losing her but also losing the backbone of so many classes in multiple programs. Together, both our choir directors teach around 300 students, having classes at the same time meaning students in our program would put some of the classes they are required to have to graduate from their program in jeopardy. As well as hurting the Vocal Track in the Performing Arts Magnet, which actively increases enrollment in our school.

Why people sign
University is a magnet school for performing Arts, and as someone who used to go to school there, I can see how much the teachers have an impact on the students, and how much passion these students have for their Art. Mrs.B is definitely one of the teachers who push the students, and make them love what they do. The students in choir need a teacher that is as hard working as her and cares about their success. Many of them have bigger motives like being in choir in collage and performing beyond the years of high school, but loosing a teacher can make that goal so much harder to reach.
