On Tuesday, May 26th, an email was sent to Dr Peter Vuky informing him that he is being laid off and his last day would be Thursday. The university offered him a part-time position (18 hrs per week), but due to alleged budget cuts and the fiscal year ending on May 31st, they could not keep him on as a full-time clincian.
This is the first of many positions that have been eradicated since I started the DC program in 2023, but this one hit particularly hard. Dr Vuky is a pillar in the school’s community and a friend to all. He frequently goes out of his way to help students, hear personal stories, and attend student events. He even volunteered as a standardized patient and a teaching assistant for a quarter on top of his clinic hours. He is also the faculty advisor for the Asian Student Association.
He is a mentor to many students, and frequently has interns hanging out at his office or faculty stopping by to check in. Dr Vuky is adored by his patients and the UWS community alike. In many ways, he is the heartbeat of our school.
Finally, next term, 3 clinicians will be left to mentor over 60 student interns in their first quarter at the student clinic, while also managing existing interns. Having one less clinician means there is significantly less capacity to mentor students in arguably one of the most pivotal points in our chiropractic education.
Dr Vuky is currently in negotiations with administrative staff at UWS. Your signature on this petition will amplify student voices and increase the liklihood that he be reinstated as a full-time clinician.

Why people sign
As a student, I know firsthand that Dr. Vuky is an amazing clinician. He is kind, knowledgeable, and supportive—I wouldn’t be nearly as confident in my clinical skills today without his mentorship. He brought so much light to high-stress clinic shifts. Firing essential faculty mid-year doesn’t just affect him; it leaves the remaining clinicians completely overloaded, which directly hurts student education and patient care. Firing the educators who make this school successful is entirely counterproductive. Rehire Dr. Vuky!

As a brand new student in only my third quarter of the DC program, I would easily put Dr. Vuky as one of my favourite staff members at UWS. He is not my clinician, he is not my professor, I don’t even see him every day, and yet he has already impacted me positively and brightened my experience at UWS. In every educational institute I have attended from my elementary school to my undergraduate school, I have never met anyone who cares like Dr. Vuky. Even from afar, I can tell the people who work with him every day absolute love and adore and respect him. He is a huge light at this school and the immense support behind him is so loud. It is a bit of a shame that those who have higher positions and higher power see that this loss was necessary.
