I am adamantly opposed to the proposed destruction of the historic building, El Rancho, so that a developer can build a 5 acre truck stop.
This would be devastating to our community. We value this building for its long history and unique Evergreen character. I have been here over 60 years, in the Hidden Valley Neighborhood, only about 1 mile from El Rancho. What is left of our history, after years of greedy developer's destruction, needs to be preserved.
Furthermore, the proposed truck stop would destroy the rural character of our community.
It would add no value to our community, and would be solely for the use of I-70 traffic. It should be situated further down the mountain in the city, and not in the unique rural environment that is Evergreen.
It would also endanger our lives - Hwy 40 is one of our only 2 emergency evacuation routes, that we have in case of wildfire, and for some of the residents, it is the only escape route. We need it kept clear of development.
Finally, this proposed development will destroy the quality of life that we have enjoyed for decades here in Evergreen. The further destruction of the woods and wildlife habitat, the noise from big trucks in a residential area, the bright lights from the truck stop - this is absolutely appalling.
I urge you not to move forward with this development.
