In Accordance with the last census and the Kyneton Summary Profile, 35.5 % of households types are ‘couples with children’ and a further 9% of household types are single parents with children. A total of 34.5% of Kyneton’s house hold types have children. Similarly within the Kyneton Summary Profile. Considering the increasing number of young families habituating in Kyneton, we feel a playground is needed on the North side of town. Currently the closest playground is almost 1km away. We are petitioning the council to design and build a fenced contemporary playground that will be utilised by primary aged school children. We also believe this playground would be utilised by tourists and lifestyler weekends with children, due to the parks proximity to Piper Street.
The location we are suggesting is the Gaswork’s community park, however anecdotally , the park is rarely used by community members. We recognise the significance of the location for local Kyneton history, so feel it would be ideal to have a fenced playground that the whole town can utilise.
We also would like to petition to council, to add gentle exercise equipment that the elderly could utilise, so the ‘community park’ is used by the whole community.
