Petition is addressed to: City and County Government

The purpose of this petition is to allow residents of Citrus County to register an objection to the current plan by the City of Inverness to build an RV Park within Whispering Pines Park.

Reason

The decision makers of the City of Inverness and Citrus County have failed to seek the approval of residents to make a major change to a precious community resource. We must act NOW to express our disapproval and demand that our local government listen to the viewpoints of residents.

Some concerns residents have are as follows:

Exorbitant Cost:
The proposed MILLIONS OF DOLLARS for this project seems grossly disproportionate to the benefits it offers to actual citizens of Citrus County. Rather than spending millions of dollars on an RV park that will only serve tourists, those funds could be better utilized to create new amenities in other areas that will both drive tourism revenue as well as serve current residents and their families. Simply put, there are better ways to raise funds to improve our existing facilities.

Environmental Impact:
Introducing a large-scale RV park could negatively impact the delicate balance of Whispering Pines Park’s natural environment. The increase in traffic, waste, and construction could compromise the integrity of the park's ecosystem. Citizens of Citrus overwhelmingly reject new development - especially in our green spaces - because it will harm wildlife habitats, negatively affect air quality, and compromise our dwindling natural and water resources.

Loss of Our Public Spaces:
Development in Citrus County is OUT OF CONTROL. Our parks are an essential part of the community, offering open spaces where families can picnic, children can play, and individuals can engage in outdoor activities. An RV park would limit this valuable access, reserving space for a specific group of people while detracting from the public’s ability to enjoy the park’s other amenities.

Safety Concerns:
Whispering Pines is currently a safe and peaceful environment where children can play. However, the introduction of an RV park in such a close proximity to play areas, walking paths, and open fields presents numerous safety risks. With vehicles constantly moving through the area, the chances of accidents or injuries occurring—especially to young children who may be unaware of the vehicles—would be significantly higher. The presence of large RVs, many of which have limited maneuverability and visibility, could create dangerous conditions for those using the park.

City of Inverness and Citrus County: hear the voices of your constituents!
Residents DO NOT WANT an RV park inside Whispering Pines Park.

Why people sign

Keep our parks beautiful and stop ruining habits for a stupid RV park when there is already an approved one on 44. There is no need for this.

Citrus county, can not handle that added impact of vehicles and people. The infrastructure is not in place to handle it either. The Wild life is getting pushed out!! When do you ever see people excited to see massive growth or concrete like they do over spotting wild life?

Put an RV park outside the City limits. Our families with children and Grandchildren use this park , splash pads , pavilions, natural beauty, not to mention ball parks.

possible increasing danger to those playing and walking the trails, if a child was to be abducted , it would be to easy to hond child in an rv, and rv leave before child was noticed missing!. we ve already lost green and woodlands of the park due to new park entrance and roadway. loss of more woodlands/ wilflife in citrus county. it would creation devastion with septic systems, as well more cost for up keep of park. i would assume most profit the rv park , majority would go into upkeep and managing of park, other situations that will come about with rv parks. plus we already have a new rv park in citrus county and plenty of other rv parks that have been here in citrus county!

We have enough stuff for visitors. We need to start preserving our county. We have a great beautiful nature coast. Why are we ruining it with too many resorts? Nevermind, the implication, it takes on our wildlife. We got bears roaming around in beverly.Hills, because you all ripped everything down. There's nowhere for our wildlife to go.We need to utilize the houses. And the buildings and the things we already have, instead of building new ones and leaving things empty.
