Petition is addressed to: Ohio General Assembly

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose the new phone policy recently implemented by The Ohio Lawmakers. This policy, which significantly restricts the use of personal devices during school hours, fails to consider the legitimate needs of student and staff for communication, learning and safety. Our primary concerns include:

  1. Safety/communication: restricting phone use limits our ability to quickly contact family members, particularly in emergencies. This policy creates unnecessary barriers to maintaining essential communication
  2. Learning and accessibility: Many students and staff rely on their phones as essential tools for learning, including accessing educational resources, managing schedules and organizing assignments
  3. Personal Freedom and Trust: The policy undermines trust between students, staff and administration by assuming misuse of devices. We believe in a more balanced approach that respects our ability to manage our responsibilities while using our phones responsibly

We Respectfully Request that Central Crossing and the Ohio Lawmakers reconsider and revise the policy to better align with the needs and concerns of all stakeholders.

Reason

This petition is important for several key reasons:
1. Protecting Communication and safety: phones are essential for maintaining communication with family, especially in emergencies. A strict phone policy may hinder the ability to quickly reach out to loved ones or seek help when needed. The petition emphasizes the need for a balanced policy that prioritizes safety without imposing unnecessary restrictions

2. Supporting Educational Needs: Many students and staff use there phones as a tools for learning such as accessing online resources managing schedules, and staying organized. The new policy could Negatively impact their ability to efficiently engage with their educational responsibilities. The petition serves as a platform to highlight the importance of integrating technology into modern education

3.Promoting Personal Responsibility and Trust: The petition argues that a restrictive phone policy may undermine the trust between students/staff and administration. It suggest suggests that a more reasonable policy could encourage responsible phone use without imposing blanket restrictions that assume misuse. This approach fosters a more respectful and trusting environment.

4.Voicing Community Concerns: A petition allows the collective voices of students, parents, and staff to be heard it demonstrates that the policy does not reflect the community's needs and values, urging the administration to consider alternative solutions that better align with those perspectives.

By organizing and supporting this petition, the community can advocate for a more thoughtful balanced phone policy that respects the needs and rights all involved.

Thank you for your support, Kaiya Kinsey from Grove City
