This is a request to INDOT to redesign the heavy traffic intersection of Hangmans Crossing and US 50 west of Seymour, Indiana.
Razones.
With hundreds of thousands of people traveling through this intersection yearly, the increase in accidents continue to rise. finding a safe solution to protect our community and those traveling through it shouldn’t be a consideration, but rather a top priority.

I live just south of this intersection. There have been many housing developments added to Seymour and the county that use this intersection. Three on 2nd Street (just east of the intersection) and at least three just south of the intersection off Sterling.
This intersection is dangerous for drivers heading east on 50 and turning north onto 2nd Street. As they enter into the left turn lane and await a clear opportunity to turn, they are at great risk of being rear-ended by traffic coming from Brownstown at a high rate of speed, not realizing a turn lane is ahead of them. The cross streets of 2nd and Sterling do not face each other, making it dangerous for cars to turn onto 50. east or west, when they arrive at the intersection at the same time.
Because this intersection is used continuously.
Has badly needed to be redesigned for many years now.

This intersection is far too complex and dangerous to be taken care of with the current flashers. Eastbound, traffic comes into Seymour from the country here often at higher than legal speeds. This intersection is at a blind curve. Westbound Hwy 50 narrows here to allow for an awkward right turn lane on to West 2nd St.. Southbound West 2nd Street crosses the railroad tracks and then crosses Hwy. 50. Northbound is Sterling Road. This intersection is at an active railroad crossing. This is also a residential area. Large farm equipment also crosses Hwy 50 North and South bound at speeds much below the posted speed limit. All of these things have produced several serious and even fatal accidents in the past few years and the accidents are becoming more and more frequent.
