Petition addressed to: Moorpark Unified School District Superintendent and Board of Education

We are calling on Moorpark Unified School District to remove Yalda Jamal from her position as Principal of Walnut Canyon Elementary School and appoint new leadership that prioritizes students, supports teachers, values parent involvement, and fosters a positive school community.

We request that the Superintendent and Board of Education formally review concerns regarding school leadership, communication, transparency, and administrative decision-making, take appropriate action through established district procedures, and consider a leadership transition.

Our goal is simple: leadership that puts students first, listens to families, supports educators, and strengthens the sense of community at Walnut Canyon.

Reason

As a parent at Walnut Canyon Elementary, I believe our school deserves leadership that brings families, teachers, and students together. I want parents to feel heard, welcomed, and comfortable speaking up about their children’s education.

In my personal experience, communication with school administration has sometimes been frustrating. I’ve had questions that were not directly answered, and I have concerns about transparency, administrative decisions, changes to school policies, and opportunities for parent involvement.

Through conversations with other parents, I’ve learned that some share similar concerns. Some have also expressed hesitation about speaking up because they worry about possible negative consequences for their children. I cannot speak for every family, but I believe these concerns deserve to be heard and taken seriously.

I also believe teachers should have meaningful opportunities to share their professional perspectives on decisions that affect their classrooms and students.

For me, this is about more than individual disagreements. My experiences have affected my confidence in the current school leadership, and I believe a change in administration could help rebuild trust and strengthen our school community.

Why now? Because these are our children’s elementary school years. We cannot get this time back, and I believe families deserve to have their concerns reviewed and addressed.

I am asking Moorpark Unified School District to take these concerns seriously, review the experiences shared by families and staff, and consider a change in leadership at Walnut Canyon.

I encourage parents, guardians, teachers, and staff to share their own firsthand experiences in the comments. Whether your concerns involve communication, school policies, administrative decisions, or the overall school environment, your perspective matters.

Please respect student privacy and avoid including children’s names or confidential information.

Our children deserve a positive school environment, our teachers deserve to feel supported, and our families deserve to be heard.

Thank you so much for your support, Kalen Lewis, Moorpark

Why people sign

Yalda Jamal is not fit to be principal of an elementary school. She does not understand even the basics of child development, nor has the capacity to lead this age group.

Because it affects my friends children

The future of our students, the importance of a safe learning environment and the need for children to enjoy learning. I opened Walnut Canyon and retired 5 years ago. It was my home and family. The stories I’ve heard break my heart. It isn’t fair to the Walnut Canyon family. Let’s do what is right. In 43 years of education I have never encountered leadership like this. Please help WC continue to be the place for our children to flourish.

I’ve watched the sense of community at Walnut Canyon change, and it’s incredibly disappointing. A school should be a place where parents feel welcomed, teachers feel supported, and children come first. Instead, I’ve experienced frustration with communication, a lack of transparency, and concerns that don’t seem to be meaningfully addressed.

What concerns me most is hearing from other parents who are afraid to speak up because they worry about how it could affect their children. No parent should ever feel that way when advocating for their child’s education.

I didn’t start this petition because of one disagreement or one bad experience. I started it because I believe these concerns deserve to be heard and that our school community needs meaningful change.

Our children only get one elementary school experience. They deserve leadership that brings people together, listens, and earns the trust of the families it serves. That’s why I’m asking for a change in leadership at Walnut Canyon.
