La petición está dirigida a: Speaker of the National Assembly

South Africa's femicide rate is of the highest in the world. Women and children are at risk of being murdered and having violence perpetrated against them, mostly by people sworn to protect and nurture them. More than 5 000 women were murdered in 2024, an average of 1 250 every three months.

Enough has been said about Gender-Based Violence and Femicide! Now is time for action. We demand immediate steps to be taken to prevent this scourge and for our Government to start with an overhaul of local law-enforcement in South Africa.

  1. We demand more police stations.
  2. We demand better resourced police stations.
  3. We demand more and better-trained law-enforcement officers.
  4. We demand that evidence collection and processing to be better resourced and the establishment of more, specialised laboratories in.
  5. We demand Victim-Friendly rooms at every police station to be utilised for their purpose and not for storage, or lunch breaks as often are the case.
  6. We demand that police stations has a general office for certifying documents so that crime victims do not have to share the charge-office space with people visiting the station for certification purposes.
  7. We demand that women and girls be afforded the opportunity to link a Panic Button App on their phones, to designated GBV prevention officers at their local police precincts.
  8. We demand that all law-enforcement officers undergo compulsory training in the processing of GVB reporting. Police must adhere to the Victims Rights Charter and allow crime victims to report crimes perpetrated against them and provide information about progress in cases.
  9. We demand that any officer, or police station involved in corruption, or mismanagent of case files, be held liable and be made accountable. It must be a crime to misplace a case file, or have a case file disappear from a station.
  10. We demand Government -resourced training in GBV prevention, including self-defence training and crime prevention training in schools.

Razones.

The effect of femicide on the family nucleus, community, society and even the economy, is devastating. The treatment of women and children in South Africa, resembles war-crimes, despite having the typical restraints such as education, the law, religion and social structures in place.

Perpetrators of violence against women often walk free, and most GBV cases go unreported. Domestic violence is very poorly policed. Homes are crime scenes and response to violence against women, often only happen when it is too late and a fatality occurred.

Todavía no hay un argumento PRO.

Por qué la gente firma.

First of all, I'm a woman. Even though all these horrible experiences women go through each and every second in South Africa I don't relate to, I fully sympathize with them. No one deserves to be treated badly just because of their gender. This is why this is important to me.
