Residents of the Danforth Village and surrounding communities are calling for a direct, safe sidewalk connection from Stephenson Avenue to the north platform of Danforth GO Station.

The issue:
Currently, pedestrians are forced to cross at Main & Danforth or use unsafe, poorly lit stairs on Stephenson. This creates dangerous conditions, especially for seniors, families, and people with accessibility needs. Main & Danforth has already seen serious incidents, including the tragic death of an elderly woman in 2021 and a hit-and-run in 2025.

The solution:
A dedicated sidewalk beside the HydroOne site, where work is already underway, would create a safe, well-lit, direct path to the platform. This would not require major new construction, as it runs through vacant space adjacent to existing upgrades.

Why now:
Danforth GO is about to undergo major track and station upgrades, which will cause disruption for years. Adding this sidewalk during that work is the most efficient and cost-effective time to do it. Our growing neighbourhood — with new condos and higher density — cannot rely on just one main access point. Most GO stations already have multiple safe entries, reducing congestion and improving flow. Improved lighting and upgraded stairs on Stephenson will also deter unsafe activity and improve the overall safety of the area.
