Campaign tools for NGOs and alliances
NGOs work tirelessly every day to bring about social change. To help them make their campaigns even more effective – whether working alone or in alliances – we asked various organizations what kind of support they really need. The result: our NGO widget, which makes campaigning easier than ever before.
Here's how it works – it's very simple:
- You create a petition on openPetition .
- We provide you with a widget that you can integrate directly into your website.
- People sign the petition directly with you – and can also subscribe to your newsletter or donate directly to you for this campaign.
- You not only gain more reach for your campaign, but also new resources for your long-term work.
Previous collaborations
Increased visibility through our reach boost
- From 250 signatures: Your petition will be promoted to 10,000 people on the openPetition mailing list.
- If the topic is well received, we will promote your petition again – to up to 100,000 additional people.
- Optional: Joint social media posts for even more attention
Also ideal for alliances
Are you working in an alliance and want to launch a joint petition? Each member gets their own widget, yet all signatures are pooled together. This ensures data privacy, each organization remains individually visible, and guarantees that each person only signs once – and together, the impact is even greater. Through openPetition all petition supporters can be contacted and mobilized centrally.
Free support
We want to strengthen civil society initiatives. That's why we offer the NGO widget free of charge – including consultation, social media content creation, and reach boost. Our team will personally support you from the initial idea to publication – and beyond.
FAQ from NGOs and alliances
Can signatures also be collected manually?
Yes, no problem. We automatically provide printable collection sheets. These can also be uploaded to the petition – this way, online and offline participation are combined. If you plan to do this, please let us know beforehand so we can ensure the correct privacy policy is included on the sheets.Who can use this service?
In principle, all civil society associations and organizations in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) are eligible to participate. However, we do not offer this service to private individuals, political parties, or businesses. We aim to strengthen civil society, which is why it is important to us that the petition is not about self-promotion or simply seeking attention, but rather that it focuses on the desire to effect change in our society. As we are a non-partisan platform, all topics are welcome, provided they remain within the democratic framework. We reserve the right to decline cooperation should any of these criteria be violated. What data protection regulations apply?
openPetition 's servers are located in Germany, meaning the highest data protection standards apply. People who support an NGO petition may be contacted by us as well as by the respective NGO. A double opt-in process requires you to confirm your consent to be contacted by sending a signature confirmation email. You can find our full privacy policy here. Can the signature collection be manipulated by signing it multiple times?
To ensure signature verification, the signature must be confirmed via email to the specified email address. Because we do not want to exclude people who are not internet-savvy from political participation, up to five people from one household can sign the petition using the same email address. All additional signatures with the same address and email address will not be counted. Signatures from multiple email addresses with the same name and address will also not be counted.
Automated signatures from bots are excluded by a CAPTCHA that is activated on a case-by-case basis. Paper signatures are authenticated by the scanned signature sheet.
We detect mass abuse based on patterns in IP addresses, email addresses, cookies, and the chronological progression of signatures. If too many suspicious signatures are submitted within a certain period of time, our spam protection is automatically activated. Collecting signatures online is thus just as secure as collecting signatures on the street.
Forging signatures is a criminal offense (document forgery) that can even be prosecuted as (attempted) fraud. We can report any violation to the authorities.
