WE LOST! And we lost BIG!!!
Commissioner Cupid overrode our District One Commissioner Gambrill and put forth a motion to approve the daycare in spite of overwhelming public sentiment to disapprove. The motion was carried by a 3-2 vote straight down the party line. Neither the applicant or the three commissioners who voted for this development live in West Cobb. They don't live here and yet, they are deciding how we are going to live - and ignoring our elected commissioner.
Cobb DOT recommended denying this application, but that did not sway Cupid. She even refused to allow Gambrill to amend the approval and ensure that restrictions regarding digital signage were in place. No, Cupid insisted on giving this applicant carte blanche to do whatever they want.
Approximately 165 kids will be attending and each one will have a parent - Park, Get out, Get their kid out, Walk them inside, Check them in, and then Return to their car. With only 26 parking spots available, traffic will backup onto Stilesboro Road. Cobb DOT, under questioning, admitted that they may have to look at installing a traffic light at Mars Hill Road and Dennis Kemp Lane to handle the traffic.
To be clear, our commissioner no longer has any control over the zoning in our district. All of our zoning decisions going forward are being made by Chairwoman Cupid and the Dist 2 and Dist 4 commissioners. This is a travesty. We no longer have anyone listening to our concerns about overdevelopment, traffic or a desire to protect our West Cobb lifestyle.
Remember this when you go to the ballot box.
