Dear Friends

Again, thanks for signing our petition to Fairfax County Public Schools.

An update -- By Jan. 19, the school system may have developed training for the teacher advisers to all after school clubs, and initial training will be for the Muslim Student Assn. clubs, a school deputy superintendent told me. He said he will give interested parties a copy of the training guide for input. I will follow up and keep you posted.

Just today, Falls Church-based American Muslims for Palestine said they are starting a chapter in the DMV . thenationaldesk.com/news/americas-news-now/american-muslims-for-palestine-announce-new-chapter-in-dmv-area-virginia-dc-maryland-jason-miyares-connecticut

This group is being sued by the Virginia Attorney General for tax violations and according to the article I linked above" has denied allegations that they support terrorists, but some of the group's leaders have reportedly worked for charities that were shut down for benefiting terrorist groups."

“As residents of a region deeply complicit in upholding and funding the Zionist occupation, we recognize our responsibility to advance principled action in supporting [boycott, divestment and sanctions] efforts locally and challenging the political structures that enable genocide,” AMP said in a statement, according to the Caller.

“We are committed to providing political and Islamic education in our masajid, offering cultural and historical education and equipping our College and high school [Muslim Student Associations] with the political guidance, teach-ins and tools they need to build informed and unapologetic student power,” the statement continued.

The timing of this is disturbing because FCPS , at the behest of our group and other Jewish groups, just want faculty advisers to excercise more control over what the students are doing.

In addition, In Fairfax County Public Schools, the stated rules are "A club may not be the extension of an outside organization, and no outside organization may have any authority or decision-making power over an FCPS club or students.”

We will be monitoring this closely

But in the meantime....

Please forward me your email if you live in DC, Maryland or Virginia so we can build up our numbers.

Please let Jewish folks and non Jews who support our aims for curtailing anti semitism and anti Zionism to send their emails and numbers to me (in confidence)

Dear Friends:

Hope you had a nice Chanukah .

I am now with Brooke Goldstein's group, EndJewHatred.com, part of her Lawfare Project. I am the volunteer leader of the DC, Maryland and Virginia Chapter.

If you reside in the DMV, please email me your email unless I have it already. OpenPetition does not provide emails, and I will keep your email confident, as well as your phone and location ( do not need an address).

This way, we can help fight other antisemitism problems in the DMV -- we are currently seeking emails and calls to the Virginia House of Delegates leadership to censure or remove a Palestinian-born chairman of their Education Committee, who consistently makes anti semitic remarks, like calling Israel "a supremacist state.' Sam Rasoul also wants to run for Congress.

You also are welcome to call or text me at 703 779 8777

Thanks, and let's stay Vocal and Vigilant, but non Violent.

Am Israel Chai!

Dear Friends:

Tonight is the first night of Chanukah -- a celebration of Jewish resistance to oppression by the Greco-Syrian rulers and for our right to observe our religion, as we see fit.

And, we are mourning the tragic deaths of 11 Jews at what was supposed to be a community Chanukah menorah lighting in Australia. The Rabbi leader was among the dead.

We must pray for the victims and hope the surviving shooter of the two is brought to justice in Australia, and the Australian weak government starts standing up to Islamic extremists, which they are not doing.

Many folks get dystopic and negative and fearful at these times But as a longtime elected leader in Northern Virginia,, I will tell you that no matter how difficult or challenging the cause, the worst thing you can do is give up hope.

We must remain vigilant - and involved. We each have an obligation to look after every Jew -- no matter his or her level of observance, skin color, sexual orientation or sex, or political viewpoint.

Remember what Rabbi Hillel wrote some 2000 years ago: "If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?” The teaching presents a hierarchy of responsibility, in which our commitment to ourselves needs to be primary."

I just learned Friday that the national organization, EndJewHatred.com, has accepted me to be their DC, Maryland and Virginia chapter leader -- and in addition to combatting antisemitism in the Fairfax County VA there is a lot to combat in the DMV

So, we need your help.

IF YOU LIVE IN DC MD OR VIRGINIA - please send me your email to kreid@fdainfo.com and phone and i will keep this in TOTAL CONFIDENCE. I am a volunteer, not selling anything. But OpenPetition did not provide emails to me.

You also can text your email to me at 703 779 8777

Our letter to FCPS has been submitted, and we are working with officials to get action to protect our school kids, and Jewish teachers and staff.

But we can accept more signatures from Virginia residents ONLY at www.openpetition.org/us/petition/online/tell-fairfax-county-public-schools-to-stop-antisemitism-in-student-clubs-classrooms

Thanks, Happy Chanukah and -- Am Israel Chai

New petition description:

Request for Policy Changes Related to Afterschool Clubs and Anti-Semitism in FCPS Dec. 5,FCPS December 2025 Drs. Nardos King and Geovanny PonceFairfax County Public SchoolsFalls Church, VA  Dear Dr. King and Dr. Ponce:

Thank you for meeting Nov. 21 with concerned Jewish community members to discuss the videos Muslim Student Associations (MSA) at Langley and Thomas Jefferson high school produced, which mocked the kidnapping of hostages. www.camera.org/article/video-students-recruiting-for-msa-jokingly-threaten-kidnapping-and-terror/

We were grateful to learn about the steps FCPS plans to take to prevent future occurrences of student actions that violate FCPS policies, foment antisemitism and create a hostile environment for Jewish students, staff, and faculty.

We appreciate Dr. Ponce’s enumeration of steps being taken to improve oversight of student clubs, including the MSAs, at FCPS high schools by Directors of Student Activities (DSAs) and teacher advisers.

We also welcome assurances made at the meeting that expectations for students, their teacher advisers, and Directors of Student Activities (DSAs) will be “tightened up.”

We applaud the TJ and Langley principals' letter to parents notifying the community about the videos, and reiterating their commitment “…to create a learning environment where all students and staff feel safe and respected.”

Therefore, we respectfully request your consideration of the following to focus the Dec. 11 meeting at your offices with Superintendent Dr. Michele Reid:

1.    We urge FCPS to NOT lift or cancel any of the in-school suspensions the MSA club members may have received following the revelations of the two videos in local news media. We also would oppose the principals of the schools or the School Board lifting them. We believe, and attorneys will back us on this point, that such a move could be a Title VI Civil Rights Act Violation. (See Appendix of Documentation)

2. We request training of teachers who supervise after-school clubs like the MSAs to to ensure the safe, respectful school environment expected by TJ and Langley principals in the above-mentioned letter to parents (in Appendix). As mentioned at our Nov. 21 meeting, one MSA adviser told a parent weeks after the principals’ letter that the videos were only done in jest, although we were advised at the meeting this is not FCPS' official view of the matter. We request that the DSAs address each faculty adviser in order to ensure they understand and are committed to enforcing FCPS policies, including risks around student use of third party social media, and printed collateral, to promote their clubs and club activities.   3.    We request FCPS review of the independence of MSAs, as required by FCPS policy. Your application, “Starting a High School Club -- Activities Office Guidelines, states "A club may not be the extension of an outside organization, and no outside organization may have any authority or decision-making power over an FCPS club or students.”We would respectfully request that FCPS verify whether MSAs are in compliance. FCPS Regulation 2601.39P, Page 18, states the school administration has a right to review such documentation, even if in the private hands of students.

4.    We request measures to ensure that guest speakers to these clubs are vetted and approved using FCPS forms (see appendix for further details).

5.    Please advise which middle and high school social studies classes have incorporated any antisemitism lesson plans, such as the August 2025 release of the Virginia Attorney General (Virginia Rules). We understand that curriculum issues are within the remit of chief FCPS Chief Academic Officer Dr. Sloan Presidio's, and kindly request his presence at the Dec. 11 meeting with Dr. Reid to discuss.6.  Please provide an update on FCPS’s response to Gov. Youngkin’s May 19 executive order regarding developing tools to log antisemitic/antireligious incidents.    www.governor.virginia.gov/newsroom/news-releases/2025/may/name-1046294-en.htmlincidents.   https://www.governor.virginia.gov/newsroom/news-releases/2025/may/name-1046294-en.html

In closing, as members of the Fairfax County community, we share the stated goal of FCPS administrators to create a learning environment where all students and staff feel safe and respected. As stated in the April 2024-adopted Policy 3280.4 regarding "controversial issues:" The FCPS Portrait of a Graduate articulates a vision for student success that includes skills such as acknowledging and understanding diverse perspectives and cultures when considering local, national, and world issues, analyzing and constructing arguments and positions to ensure examination of a full range of viewpoints, and respecting divergent thinking... ”

Thank you so much for giving us an opportunity to share our views. We look forward to the Dec. 11 meeting and receiving a written response to this letter.

CC: Michele Reid, superintendent Sincerely,Ken Reid, Falls Church (county)

Shari Schwartz, Vienna

Dear Chaverim (Friends):

Thanks for signing the letter to Fairfax County Public Schools, and please get other county residents to sign -- and leaders of major organizations, whether they live in Virginia or not (i.e. we have someone from Mothers Against College Antisemitism who signed, but she is not in Virginia)

We will incorporate your names and locations (not full addresses) in the letter, so please email me a location if it's in Fairfax County. We hope to get 100 more before Wednesday when I will email the letter and attachments to FCPS officials.

Please spread the link to others to sign the petition, especially parents of kids in the Fairfax County Schools. .https://www.openpetition.org/us/petition/online/tell-fairfax-county-public-schools-to-stop-antisemitism-in-student-clubs-classrooms

For those who signed anonymously, especially parents with children in the school, I can only assume you do not want to be identified so there is no blowback to you or your kids. And, we are all very sensitive to that.

I, too, faced a situation with my son when he was in middle school in Leesburg and was cyberbullied by a kid (not Muslim) who organized a Pro Hitler Facebook page, which got a few "likes." I was afraid he and/'or his twin sister would get some blowback if I complained -- but I was very glad I did

We alerted the school principal, who swiftly called the parents and kids into his office. But one parent was upset with me and never spoke with me again. Well, she was embarrassed, so that was her problem.

A number of Jewish moms have been even more vocal on FCPS, even speaking with the federal and state authorities, and they have not gotten even a cold shoulder. It's better to show strength vs. weakness to our opponents and detractors.

I respectfully request that if you don't wish to sign on line, we can include your name ONLY on the letter that goes to the FCPS officials exclusively.

Feel free to email me if you can do that

If you wish to meet with Dr. Michele Reid, the superintendent on Dec. 11, do let me know -- only for Fairfax County residents, preferably parents of kids in the schools, or alumni who experienced recent acts of antisemitism in FCPS.

And, we will prevail. Am Israel Chai.
