Petition addressed to: Houston City Council
The City SHOULD NOT spend $30 million of our storm‑water funds.
Reason
Yes, we all want to see that Old Kmart building demolished. But NOT at the expense of our community’s safety and our tax dollars.
The City SHOULD NOT spend $30 million of our storm‑water funds.
These funds come from our pockets and are urgently needed in our neighborhoods that have endured 50+ years of flooding. Storm water dollars are meant to protect families, homes, and streets not to bail out a private property owner.
HOLD THE OWNER ACCOUNTABLE!!!!!
The demolition is his responsibility, not the taxpayers’.
If the City pays for it, the owner walks away smiling like: “I GOT THEM!” 💸

I live in Northwood Manor community. We have flooding here in this neighborhood. When there is heavy rain, we're either flooded into our homes where we can't get out onto the streets or flooded out from my homes because we can't get on to the streets. Those millions of dollars need to go for drainage. Someone owns that property and needs to take care of demolishing it.
