Petition is addressed to: Town of Lansing and NYS DOT

We seek to establish a speed limit for Waterwagon Road. This is the only road in Lansing that has no posted speed limit, which means the default limit is 55 mph. However, the road is one mile long, sandwiched between two roads which have speed limits of 45 mph (Triphammer Rd and East Shore Drive/NYS Route 34). Further, our neighboring residential road Burdick Hill - which also runs between Triphammer Rd and NYS Route 34 - has a posted speed limit of 40 mph.

Reason

Waterwagon Road also has little to no shoulders and is a residential neighborhood, some of which is part of the "development" on Murfield Road and Ryan's Way. Waterwagon is a popular cut-through road, and it is unreasonable for people to be racing through this residential area going 60 mph - yet this happens daily. For the safety of all who live here - especially children - we request a speed limit of 40 mph, appropriate based on all nearby roads in our neighborhood.

Thank you for your support, Jennifer Tavares , Ithaca, NY

News

  • Hello everyone,

Thank you to all who have signed this petition thus far. We are grateful,

Unfortunately, the Town of Lansing is indicating that they are going to require a paper petition with real signatures and addresses. Despite this not being a requirement of the NYS DOT in order to consider a request from the Town to review the speed limit, this is what the Town Supervisor has said.

I have followed up and requested the Town's written policy on this. Meantime, we'll go back to our original plan of creating a paper petition and walking the neighborhood. If anyone is interested in helping, please email me at jentavares@gmail.com.

    Thanks again!

    Jennifer
