Why This Matters

- No Second Chances: Riders are punished without the opportunity for correction or explanation.

Our Proposal

- Public Accountability: Release data on fines issued, appeals won, and changes made, so citizens can trust the system.

It is important for Israel to set example to the nations and everyone who lives here: That we are fair. The current model and training for the people who come around and issue fines is unfair. The policy is too strict, punishing more innocent people who are elderly, new, exhausted, forgetful, or ignorant than actual freeloaders trying to take advantage of the system. The fine itself is very large in comparison to the actual bus fair. The treatment riders receive from the people issuing fines is intimidating and offers zero leniency which makes an innocent person feel like a criminal. It needs to change this isn’t right. Also, it’s been discussed that there is a quota of tickets to be handed out and that the bus companies make profit off of fines and issue possible bonuses to those who issue more fines than others. This offers incentive to profit off of others pain rather than provide the best service possible and protect citizens from being taken advantage of. It truly is a form of robbery. We are to be a people who reveres Hashem. That means we must do unto others how we would have others do unto us. This behavior does not exemplify that at all.
