Urgent Call to Action – Attend the Public Hearing at 6:30 on Monday if you want fluoride to remain in our city’s water!
Thank you for signing the petition in support of keeping fluoride in the water here in Monroe. In another twist, what seems like a minor word change in front of city council on Monday could turn into the loss of the fluoride in our water.

The city council will hold a public hearing on Monday, 3/3/25, at 6:30 PM to discuss changing the ordinance from requiring 1-1.5 ppm fluoride in the water to align with the WI Administrative Code. While aligning with the WI administrative code is a positive step forward, as it will allow standards to align with CDC recommendations more easily, having this issue in front of city council again so soon is very risky for our community. The council currently stands at a 5-4 position to remove fluoride entirely, and it is highly likely that an amendment to eliminate fluoride from our water supply will be proposed and passed if we do not apply enough pressure physically at this meeting.
Your presence at this meeting is vital to demonstrating strong community support for maintaining fluoride in our water. You can review the proposed ordinance changes here: legistarweb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/attachment/pdf/3132874/D37_Ordinance_re_fluoridation_-2025-01-24__changes_in_red.pdf.
How You Can Help:
Contact Mayor Douglas (608)-329-2526 – Encourage her to use her veto if an amendment to remove fluoride entirely is passed. This will at least delay action until the upcoming election, allowing the community to vote for candidates who align with their views.
Attend the Public Hearing – Join us on Monday, 3/3/25, at 6:30 PM at City Hall to voice your support for keeping fluoride in our water. You need to register your name on the piece of paper prior to the meeting to speak. You will likely be limited to 1-2 minutes to speak. You do not need to live in the city limits to speak at a public hearing.
Call Your Representatives – Reach out to the city council members who continue to vote to remove fluoride from the water despite the majority of people at the public hearings and petition showing their support for keeping fluoride. Please share your opinion and encourage them to change their minds. Contact:
Kyle Knoll kknoll@cityofmonroe.org
Andrew Kranig akranig@cityofmonroe.org
Lynne Kleven (608)-328-2064
Richard Thoman (608)-293-6870
Corinne Wartenweiler cwartenweiler@cityofmonroe.org
Spread the Word – Encourage friends, family, and neighbors to attend or contact their representatives.
Research your candidates carefully for the next election on April 1st and VOTE. Of the candidates we have spoken with, Tom Miller, Christopher Vestin, Craig Franke, and Dylan McGuire have all provided opinions that they trust our public health experts to provide guidance on the proper use of fluoride for public health benefit without detriment. Please consider writing a letter to the editor in support of any candidate you will be supporting in the upcoming election.
Your voice matters, and together, we can ensure that our community follows the best public health practices. Please mark your calendar and make every effort to attend. Thank you for your continued support and advocacy. Let’s make a difference together!

Hello,

I wanted to provide an update after the City Council meeting last night. At this time, fluoride will continue to be added to the water in Monroe. The council members needed a supermajority to suspend the rules regarding the change to the ordinance about fluoride in Monroe's water and this was not achieved. Your signatures helped us display support for water fluoridation by the residents of Monroe. The topic of fluoride will continue to be discussed by the Board of Public Works and could be revisited by the council in the future. I encourage everyone to follow the available agendas, meeting minutes, and videos to stay informed about this issue and the other issues happening in the City of Monroe. You can find those here: www.cityofmonroe.org/government/agenda_center_video.php

Your support is appreciated,
