Petition addressed to: USD 465 Board of Education

The Winfield Unified School District Board of Education is voting to approve the Winfield High School handbook, which includes removing the Renaissance cords (graduation cords) system for all future graduating classes starting with the class of 2027.

Reason

The voting will be happening in June by the Board. This is an over twenty year tradition that recognizes senior achievement as they leave Winfield High School. This is one of the only ways students are recognized for academic achievement and success.

Thank you so much for your support, Rheegyn Richert , Winfield

Why people sign

Cause I want cord

Because me and everyone else DESERVES the recognition we SHOULD be getting taking the hardest classes our school offers.

Because keeping the honor of completing ap classes is important

According to my counselor, it appears I may be first of the class of 2028 currently. That doesn’t really matter though, since chords aren’t about just me. Chords are a sign of success to the individual student—a big colorful dangly thing that shows people on the big day in may that they did something hard because they wanted to. Truly wanted to. Even if low enrollment rates, the individual student’s achievements should not be ignored—in fact, they should be highlighted more than ever with a smaller amount of students! We must bring chords back so students can see, feel, and know that they made an accomplishment dang it!!!

Because it's a way for everyone to express and show how they've helped out the school.
