Petition addressed to: USD 465 Board of Education

The Winfield Unified School District Board of Education is voting to approve the Winfield High School handbook, which includes removing the Renaissance cords (graduation cords) system for all future graduating classes starting with the class of 2027.

Reason

The voting will be happening in June by the Board. This is an over twenty year tradition that recognizes senior achievement as they leave Winfield High School. This is one of the only ways students are recognized for academic achievement and success.

Thank you so much for your support, Rheegyn Richert , Winfield

Why people sign

Because I shows how much you have accomplished in your high school career

I believe the Renaissance Cord System at WHS is a great way to encourage students to be active throughout their high school careers. This system is also a great way to recognize those who go above and beyond advocating and representing the many amazing facets of WHS.

Cords are a necessary item to present the accomplishments and achievements of a students actions. They act as motivation and drive to graduate accomplished. Without them, what will stop students from just dropping out and getting a GED? A diploma? College? Neither are necessary in today's world. One can get into college with a GED and/or still achieve whatever they wish to do in life. Getting rid of cords shows that the school board does not care for the very students they are supposed to help learn. And quite frankly shows that they are undeserving of working in the field. Getting rid of cords is also very disrespectful to culture. The very thing students and children are taught to have pride in.

To show improvement and achievements of all the students who have dedicated hard work into our school.

Because having cords gives students like myself something to work for and it is a physical symbol of their achievements through the years
