It should be our right to provide our families with food with the rising cost of eggs, and concerns of disease and the environmental impacts that come with large scale factory farming. I want to know where my food comes from and it is a shame we have allowed council members with a vested interest in the meat industry (Didier Meats) to strike down this measure. A small group of hens would minimize noise concerns and offer relief in an uncertain economic climate due to rising tariffs and grocery costs for the average person. This is a person freedom we need to allow people.

We need to promote food sustainability in our local communities instead of letting mega corporations control our health and access to food.

Allowing small food bearing animals within the confines of a person's property does not harm the city in any way. It helps residents mitigate their food costs and allows homeowners the ability to improve their properties with out buildings.

Beneficial for my home and for others. I have a garden and every year I think how much chickens would help my pest problem without the use of harmful pesticides!

First off I moved to this town from a town that has become a small city so I could have my own way to live because of rules like this one being put into place. You’re already regulating the number of chickens that a person can own and the sex of the animals in question. My water comes out of the tap smelling like chlorine and at 364 ppm InTotal dissolved solids and you charge me, the run down hotel next door to me has garbage flying all around the neighborhood from the drug addled residents and immigrants that dwell there also . It seems to me if you put some thought into it you could do some real good things instead of harassing your constituents about their chickens when the egg prices went to 12 dollars a dozen last month. That is a dollar an egg . That’s 12 dollars I have now to give back to the town’s economy someplace other than five star, the store where stuff expires on your way home, all I’m saying is start doing something about the things that need to be done and leave me and my chickens alone

We have the right to grow and raise our own food, and keeping backyard chickens is a simple, sustainable way to put fresh eggs on our tables. Reasonable rules on coop size and care protect everyone—so let us exercise our food sovereignty and keep chickens in the city.

A small number of chickens are helpful for soil health and benefits the community with eggs. Egg prices are through the roof because of the orange clown's tarrifs and avian flu isn't actually as much of a concern for small farmers,
When factory farmers have an outbreak it spreads much faster due to the close quarters of the hens; for small time chicken owners avian flu is either not an issue or SIGNFICANTLY more easy to manage. For those concerned about noise; roosters make all the noise, hens are much quieter.

Many cities in Indiana allow chickens and we should too! Indy, Bloomington, Gary to name a few foster a sense of community by allowing chickens within city limits with permits. How does this foster community? By allowing neighbors the opportunity to care for one another with shared eggs in a time where food prices are becoming more and more unattainable. Allowing chickens within city limits will also help children learn responsibility for caring for animals. Urban ppl try keeping had also historically been to promoted by the government, and should be again.

I love just inside city limits I've lived in the country and worked on farms the cost of eggs for my family is crazy it's sad that I have to tell my children that no you can't have hard boiled eggs right now because mommy can't afford it when I could easily feed the chickens for less then what I spend on eggs a month. Me and my children have wanted chickens for a long while and it would be a great way to teach them some responsibility.

It would be wonderful if we could have chickens in city limits. With the price of food soaring, especially with eggs being $6 a dozen. Would really help my family tremendously!!

I enjoyed raising chickens 15 minutes from downtown Chicago. Not only does not being about to have chickens impede on our freedoms, but our ability to provide for our family as well as enhance our quality of life! Please reconsider

Chickens are a source of eggs for food. And farm fresh eggs are lower in cholesterol and saturated fats and higher in omega 3, Vitamin D, and beta carotene.
