This petition calls on Hendricks County leadership to take immediate action to address serious, ongoing problems at the county animal shelter that impact both animal welfare and public safety. Current conditions include a lack of heat in the facility, chronic underfunding, a shelter that is too small for our growing population, staffing shortages, and limited response to calls about stray and loose animals. These issues affect our neighborhoods, our roads, and every animal that enters county care. This petition demands transparency, accountability, and a clear, funded plan for improvement.
Animals housed at the shelter are being placed at risk due to inadequate facilities and resources. Public safety is also affected when calls about stray or loose animals cannot be responded to promptly. While shelter staff continue to work under challenging conditions and with limited support, they cannot solve these systemic problems alone. Our community deserves humane shelter conditions, reliable funding, and an effective Animal Control system. Without immediate action, both animal welfare and public safety will continue to suffer.

These poor animals don’t have a loving family, they should at least have comfortable & safe living conditions while they wait to be adopted. They didn’t ask to be surrendered, lost, or dumped off.
