To the people of Kodagu—our greatest strength has always been our unity and our shared reverence for this land. Today, the sacred and ecologically fragile slopes of Malma Betta are facing imminent destruction by outside commercial developers. This is not just an attack on our spiritual heritage, but a direct threat to the environmental safety of every person living in this district. The hills that protect us are now calling for our protection. I urge each and every one of you, regardless of background or belief, to stand with us, raise your voice, and take action before our shared homeland is irreversibly scarred."
Reason
Extreme Ecological Fragility and Landslide Risk - Malma Betta is located within a highly eco-sensitive zone of the Western Ghats. Kodagu has suffered devastating landslides in recent years due to unscientific hill-cutting and commercial landscape altering. Any major construction, heavy machinery movement, or deforestation at the slopes of Malma Betta poses a catastrophic risk of landslides, threatening the life and property of the villagers living downstream.
