Petition addressed to: Corporate and local community management

Residents who are concerned about use of pesticides, and other community health and wellbeing within Springs & Meadows in Dubai, UAE. This petition is a request to the Community Management that residents be more informed, involved and an offer to support community management on issues which concern the wellbeing of families, pets, and the natural environment.

Reason

Over recent months, there has been a noticeable increase in concern and alarm among residents of The Springs and The Meadows regarding the fogging program and broader approaches to insect, pest, and vermin control being implemented across the community, including areas near homes, play spaces, pets, and community lakes.

While residents fully understand and support the need to manage mosquitoes, vermin, and other pests—particularly given public health considerations—many families have expressed growing unease about what substances are being used, how frequently they are applied, and their potential impacts on health, pets, and the surrounding natural environment.

In plain terms, residents are seeking reassurance and clarity regarding possible impacts such as:

  • Endocrine disruption: Certain pesticides are known to interfere with hormones. In everyday language, this means they may affect growth, development, metabolism, and reproductive health—especially concerning for children whose bodies are still developing.
  • Cancer risk: Long-term or repeated exposure to specific chemical compounds has been associated in credible scientific literature with increased cancer risk over time, particularly with cumulative exposure.
  • Respiratory and neurological effects: Some pesticides can irritate the lungs and airways or affect the nervous system, potentially triggering asthma symptoms, headaches, dizziness, or other respiratory discomfort.
  • Pet and wildlife safety: Pets are often closer to the ground and may ingest or absorb residues through paws or fur. Aquatic treatments may also affect fish, birds, beneficial insects, and the broader ecosystem within and around community lakes.

Thank you so much for your support, Residents of Springs & Meadows, Dubai
