Petition is addressed to: Parliament of Kenya

For decades we've fought land grabbers, protected the forests and built community led programs. Now our government wants them out.
We urge the government to immediately

  1. Stop deforestation and halt Kenyan forests by halting destructive projects, upholding the logging ban, strengthening governance with transparency in our communities and taking firm action against illegal logging and land grabbing.
  2. Strengthen enforcement of forest protection laws and hold offenders accountable
  3. Ensure transparency and public participation in any policies forests.

Reason

  1. Forests are natural water towers, destroying forests means drying up our rivers and worsening water shortage.
  2. climate action, trees absorb carbon dioxide reducing the effects of climate change. Cutting them down increases greenhouse gases which is an effect to the atmosphere.
  3. biodiversity. Our forests including the recent attack on Karura forest which is home to rare plants and animals.
  4. Livelihoods and communities. Forests are source of food, medicine, firewood and income to millions of Kenyans, indigenous communities directly depend on them for survival.
  5. Tourism and Economy, natural beauty attracts tourists boosting Kenya's economy.

WHY ACTION MUSTMUST BE TAKEN NOW!

  1. Once forests are destroyed it will take centuries to restore them.
  2. forests are sources of human survival once destroyed it will mean harsh climate for the people and their surrounding.
  3. Article 42 of the Kenyan constitution gives every citizen the right to clean and health environment and surroundings.
  4. Protecting forests ensures livable climate for future generation.
  5. It's a global responsibility to every citizen regardless of their continent to fight againist climate change.

**Attack on forests is attack on life itself, protecting forests means protecting people, animals, our economy and the future of our continent. **
