Just an update on what might be relevant to the above: as you may recall I started a petition a couple of weeks ago about the electric dirt bikes (EDBs) and the dangerous behaviour both inside the communities and on public roads. Today I went to the Emaar office at Springs Souk to present this petition and our concerns. We had nearly 300 signatories. They are well aware of the issue and shared with me the following:
- Emaar are in the process of procuring an entire system of CCTV’s which will be placed around all Emirates Living communities because of the increasingly unsafe behaviour - installation should happen in the coming months;
- nearly 100 EDB’s have been confiscated so far and parents of riders are receiving fines;
- Dubai Police are aware of the issue and increasing surveillance;
- plain clothes CID officers (UAE version of secret service) are now also undertaking surveillance and confiscation and fines.
My advice to parents: save your money and buy a pedal bike and teach your kids safe and respectful behaviour - we all have to share our community.
In the UAE, you may record or photograph something illegal if your sole purpose is to provide evidence to authorities (e.g., police or regulators).
Examples:
• Dangerous driving
• Assault or violence
• Theft or vandalism
• Public safety violations
Authorities have acknowledged that documenting incidents can support law enforcement — but the intent and how you use the footage is critical.
